Doesn't hardly seem possible, but it's been 10 years since we drove our first gasoline-electric hybrids, namely the spaceship-like Honda Insight two-seater (pictured above) and the stubby first-generation Toyota Prius sedan. Back in those days hybrids were a definite novelty, and it wasn't uncommon to get a thumbs-up from other drivers as we were motoring down the freeway minding our own business. In short, it was pretty darn cool.
Fast forward a decade and hybrids have gone mainstream. In fact, hybrids now occupy all of the top slots on the EPA's 2010 Fuel Economy Guide. While Honda and Toyota are still well represented with models like the new four-door Insight and sleek new Prius, there are a surprising array of other hybrids on the list including everything from the new Lexus HS 250h compact luxury sedan to the midsize Ford Fusion Hybrid.
