Wow, is it just us or has the news media suddenly become
borderline obsessed with the rapidly snowballing trend toward more
environmentally-friendly products?
Not that we're complaining mind you. We're actually all for vehicles that are kinder and gentler to our environment. But we can't help but notice one aspect of this story that's been largely overlooked, namely a little-publicized program that lets you save some green while you're doing right by Mother Earth.
We're talking here about the tax incentives the federal government is offering to buyers of a wide range of new cars and trucks powered by less-polluting gasoline-electric hybrid or clean diesel powertrains. While it's true that the incentives have expired on some of the most popular models like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid, there are still more than a dozen cars and SUVs that qualify for tax incentives of up to $1700. To learn more about the available rebates, check out the EPA's list of qualifying clean diesel and gasoline-electric hybrid models.
