Putting gas in a
car is perhaps the most common experience we drivers share. And now car manufacturers are taking
small but meaningful steps to make this ubiquitous process just a little bit
easier.
The most
widespread trend is the addition of small arrows or other indicators on a
vehicle's gas gauge designed to clue you in to which side of the car you'll
find the fuel filler door located on.
While this may not be much of an issue with your everyday driver, anyone
who's ever rented a car and pulled up to the wrong side of the gas pumps will
appreciate this handy little detail as much as I did on the Honda Civic Hybrid
I drove last week.
The second
surprisingly practical innovation in this often-overlooked aspect of the
ownership experience is the introduction of an "Easy Fuel" capless fuel filler
neck on many new Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models. Not only is this new system faster and easier to use, but the
lack of a gas cap means one less thing for the absent-minded among us to
lose.
